Mae Geri - Oi Zuki (front kick stepping punch)
Here we are going to practice mae geri (front kick) – Oi Zuki (stepping punch).
Starting from a left gedan barai (down block).
Keep the arms still as you lift the right knee and kick mae geri (front kick).
Try not to let the arms come out, try not to lift the shoulders up, or open the hands.
Keep your back straight, arms still and as you land the kick the body should be in the shomen (square facing) position, with the knee held high after the snap back.
From here drive off of the left leg and land oi zuki.
Check your zenkutsu dachi and position on completion. The body should be in the shomen position for this exercise, good strong hikite and oi zuki, shoulders down, back straight. Stance should be the correct length and width.
Now repeat on the other side.
