Shotokan Karate Exercise Hip And Body Rotation

Shotokan Karate Exercise Hip And Body Rotation

This is a really good exercise to practice leg driving and hip and body rotation. Sharply drive off the back leg each time and try and get a dynamic rotation with the body and hips.

1. From shizentai  yoi, make a small step with the left leg into Moto-dachi (基立, Foundation stance) and punch ura zuki (upper cut), with the right fist at approximately 45 degrees to your front left.

2. Now drive off the left leg and sharply rotate the body and hip to your right side at approximately 45 degrees to the front right and punch ura zuki with the left fist in Moto-dachi (基立, Foundation stance).

3. Now drive off the right leg and sharply rotate the body and hip to your left side at approximately 45 degrees to the front left and punch tate zuki (vertical punch) with the right fist in Han Zenkutsu-dachi (半前屈立, half zenkutsu dachi).

4. Now drive off the left leg and sharply rotate the body and hip to your right side at approximately 45 degrees to the front right and punch tate zuki (vertical punch) with the left fist in Han Zenkutsu-dachi (半前屈立, half zenkutsu dachi).

5. Now drive off the right leg and sharply rotate the body and hip to your left side at approximately 45 degrees to the front left and punch gyaku zuki (reverse punch) with the right fist in Zenkutsu-dachi (前屈立, front stance).

6. Now drive off the left leg and sharply rotate the body and hip to your right side at approximately 45 degrees to the front right and punch gyaku zuki (reverse punch) with the left fist in Zenkutsu-dachi (前屈立, front stance).
