Building Up A Kihon Combination
Starting with different steps and blocking gedan barai and gyaku zuki.
Part 1
1. Push off your left leg and move 45 degrees and back, block gedan barai as you land, whilst making a little bit distance back to your right corner. Be sure and push off your left leg. Land in zenkutsu dachi and then immediately punch gyaku zuki. Then back to yoi,
2. Now push off your right leg to the opposite 45 degree angle and block gedan barai and gyaku zuki.
3. Bring your left foot to your right foot and do a double step, whilst moving 45 degrees and back, block gedan barai as you land, and then immediately punch gyaku zuki. Then back to yoi.
4. Now repeat the double step to the opposite 45 degree angle and block gedan barai gyaku zuki.
5. Step forward with your left leg and block gedan barai, land in zenkutsu dachi and then immediately punch gyaku zuki. Then back to yoi.
6. Step forward with your right leg and block gedan barai, land in zenkutsu dachi and then immediately punch gyaku zuki. Then back to yoi.
Always drive from the legs and immediately counter punch with reverse puch (gyakuzuki) after you complete the down block (gedan barai), no delay between the block and counter. Work on a quick compression and expansion on every move.
Part 2
1. Push off your left leg and move 45 degrees and back, block gedan barai as you land, whilst making a little bit distance back to your right corner. Be sure and push off your left leg. Land in zenkutsu dachi and then immediately punch gyaku zuki.
Straight after the gyaku zuki (reverse punch), kick Mae geri (front kick) with the right leg, changing the arms at the half way point, then land right oi zuki in the hanmi (side facing) position, then a left gyaku zuki in a good zenkutsu dachi (front stance).
2. Now push off your right leg to the opposite 45 degree angle and block gedan barai and gyaku zuki.
Straight after the gyaku zuki (reverse punch), kick Mae geri (front kick) with the left leg, changing the arms at the half way point, then land left oi zuki in the hanmi (side facing) position, then a right gyaku zuki in a good zenkutsu dachi (front stance).
3. Bring your left foot to your right foot and do a double step, whilst moving 45 degrees and back, block gedan barai as you land, and then immediately punch gyaku zuki.
Facing the same way kick mawashi geri with the right leg, then land and punch gyaku zuki chudan with the left arm.
4. Repeat number 3 on the opposite side. Bring your right foot to your left foot and do a double step, whilst moving 45 degrees and back, block gedan barai as you land, and then immediately punch gyaku zuki.
Facing the same way kick mawashi geri with the left leg, then land and punch gyaku zuki chudan with the right arm.
5. Step forward with your left leg and block gedan barai, land in zenkutsu dachi and then immediately punch gyaku zuki.
Keep on the spot and kick mawashi geri (round kick) with the left front leg, then land and punch gyaku zuki (reverse punch).
6. Repeat number 5 on the opposite side. Step forward with your right leg and block gedan barai, land in zenkutsu dachi and then immediately punch gyaku zuki.
Keep on the spot and kick mawashi geri (round kick) with the right front leg, then land and punch gyaku zuki (reverse punch).
When kicking with the front leg try and keep the body weight forward as you lift the kicking knee and kick.
Part 3
Now we are going to repeat part 2 from freestyle and no hikite. Try and flow through thee techniques.
