Shotokan Karate exercise for simultaneous block and counter. This style of block and counter can be seen throughout many of the Shotokan kata, yet many karateka do not practice simultaneous block and counter. One of the excellent benefits of being able to simultaneously block and counter, is where you deliver a ‘shock hit‘ to your opponent, a ‘shock hit’ normally happens when your opponent does not expect it, they may be half way through their attack and subconsciously focusing on hitting the target, then BAM!! you hit them when they least expect it. As with many aspects of karate, timing is essential, but if you practice this style of karate diligently, the benefits are numerous.
