The Uechi-Ryu kata Kanshū (完周) is a relatively young kata, Kanshu was created by Itokazu Seiki Sensei in 1956.

Kanbun Uechi (the founder of Uechi Ryu) trained under a Chinese martial arts teacher known in Japanese as Shū Shiwa (Chinese: Zhou Zihe 1874–1926)

Kanshu is a combination of the first kanji in Master Kanbun Uechi’s name (Kan), and the kanji for Shu Shiwa’s family name (Shu).

Kanshu was originally known as Dai ni Sesan (second Seisan), the karate kata was created as a training aid for Seisan with many similar techniques.
