Bassai Dai Kata Moves 9 to 13

Sorry for the poor quality, we are soon going to re film all the zoom tutorials.

Moves 9 to 13 of Bassai Dai requires a strong leg and hip rotation.

There are several applications for this combination but we will just refer to them as being a block and punch in application for now.

Move 8 is gyaku uchi uke (reverse inside block) with the left arm and right leg in front.

As you step up with the left leg into heiko dachi, the left fist comes on top of the right hikite fist, but does not stop, the left fist reaches the hikite fist as your left leg is still stepping and knees are bent. Then as you straighten the legs complete a tate shuto (edge of the hand) with the left arm.

From Tate Shuto.

  1. Choku tsuki (straight punch) with the right arm
  2. Without moving the hips or body, bend the right punching arm, then block uchi uke (inside block) with the right arm whilst strongly pivoting on the feet and snapping the hips and body around to the left.
  3. Choku tsuki (straight punch) with the left arm
  4. Without moving the hips or body, bend the leftt punching arm, then block uchi uke (inside block) with the left arm whilst strongly pivoting on the feet and snapping the hips and body around to the left.

Throughout this combination, keep the crown of the head pushing up, the chin tucked in, shoulders down and head facing forward.
